GOLD (Personal Vocal) is a 120-minute, one-to-one session at KING STUDIO in Seoul where a K-pop vocal director analyses your voice, records you singing diagnostic passages in a working booth, and sends you a written vocal report in English. GOLD Is Not What It Used to Be

GOLD has been merged with our Personal Vocal service, and the merged session is built around diagnosis rather than production.

So the usual mental model — bronze, silver, gold, diamond, each a bigger version of the last — does not apply. GOLD and DIAMOND are not two rungs on one ladder but two different sessions with two different outcomes.

Worth stating plainly, because it is the most common misunderstanding: there is no longer a lighter recording tier below DIAMOND. If a finished, produced track is the souvenir you came to Seoul for, that is DIAMOND, and GOLD is not a cheaper route to it.

GOLD vs DIAMOND, Side by Side

The rows that decide it are the middle two. Both sessions put you in the booth and both send you audio, so on a feature list they look adjacent. What differs is why you are singing.

In GOLD, the singing is evidence — material your director listens back to while writing your report, and which you keep as a fixed record of where your voice was that day. In DIAMOND, the singing is the product, and everything after you leave exists to finish it.

Put it in one line: GOLD is the session you leave knowing your voice. DIAMOND is the session you leave holding your track.

Inside the 120 Minutes

STEP 1 Before you arrive — the intake form

When you book, we send a short intake form: what you want from the session, what you currently sing, where you get stuck, which K-pop artists you gravitate toward. Your director reads it beforehand and pre-selects three songs. You pick one of the three on the day.

Those three are chosen to expose things — the edges of your range, a phrase with real breath demand, a section that shows what your consonants do under pressure. They are not necessarily songs that suit you. Finding those is what the report at the other end is for.

STEP 2 Diagnosis — range, timbre, and the habits you cannot hear

The session runs with on-site interpretation in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, or Japanese, which matters more here than in a recording session: coaching is almost entirely nuance, and a note like "you are pulling chest voice two semitones higher than you should" does not survive being approximated.

Your director works through range top and bottom, tone colour, and the habits you have built without noticing — where the breath collapses, which vowel you retreat to under strain, what your jaw does on the high notes. STEP 3 Coaching on what the diagnosis found

Diagnosis without a fix is just criticism, so the middle of the session is spent working on what turned up. It is targeted rather than general — if you run out of air three bars before the phrase ends, you spend the time on that, not on a warm-up routine you could have found online.

You also start on the useful question: which K-pop styles your voice is built for, and which you have been fighting. Most people arrive having only sung the songs they love — not the same set as the songs that fit them.

STEP4 About 30 minutes in the booth

Then you go in. Same booth, same signal chain, same AVID Pro Tools rig that Korean records are cut on — a working production room, seven minutes from Seolleung Station.

Be clear on what this step is, though: you are not recording a complete song. You sing sections — the passages carrying the diagnostic weight — with the director talking to you through the headphones between takes, the way a real tracking session runs. Singing into a professional chain is unlike singing anywhere else; you hear yourself the way a microphone hears you, which is often the most useful half-hour of the session.

The audio from that booth time reaches you within one day, deliberately untouched — no pitch correction, no mixing. That is the point. It is what you actually sounded like, which is what makes it worth comparing against six months from now.

STEP 5 Playback and your director's verbal assessment

Then you sit down and go through it. Your director plays back what you just recorded and talks you through it element by element — pitch, tempo, breath, rhythm, high-note stability, expression, polish — naming what already works and what is costing you, with your interpreter in the room.

This is the part hardest to carry across a language barrier, and the part most visitors remember. Hearing your own take played back while someone tells you precisely what they hear in it is a different experience from being told your voice is nice — usually the moment the session stops being fun and starts being useful.

STEP 6 What follows you home

The booth audio reaches you within one day, deliberately untouched — no pitch correction, no mixing. That is the point: it is what you actually sounded like, which is what makes it worth comparing against six months from now. The written report follows within seven days.

What It Sounds Like From the Other Side

Horea, a visitor from the United States, worked on Tori Kelly's "Paper Hearts" — a track many K-pop fans know through Jungkook's cover, released on BTS's official SoundCloud on Christmas Eve 2015. It is also a well-chosen diagnostic song: quiet, breath-led, unforgiving about pitch — exactly where the seven scored elements live.

The Report You Take Home

This is what makes GOLD its own product rather than a trimmed-down DIAMOND. Within seven days you receive a Personal Vocal Report as a PDF, written in English, covering:

• A vocal profile and session assessment — a one-line summary of what kind of singer you are, plus your director's full written comment on the session.
• Seven scored vocal elements, each with its own written note: pitch accuracy, tempo, breath control, rhythm, high-note stability, expression, and overall polish. Tone colour and diction are assessed separately in prose.
• Your voice type. Voices are classified by vocal-fold contact and breath pressure into four base types, then narrowed to one of eight against a reference set built from a fifty-person expert panel. It tells you what your instrument is — more durable than a score.
• One to three K-pop artists whose vocal style sits closest to yours, named by your director with the reasoning. You leave knowing whose technique is worth studying.
• Three signature song recommendations — chosen to suit the voice you actually have, rather than the one you have been trying to sing.
• A custom training plan — practice methods for the elements that need work, plus a recommended overall practice volume.

Every line is written by a person. There is no automated scoring and no generated commentary; the analysis is your director's, from the session they ran with you.

Who Should Book GOLD — and Who Should Not

• Book GOLD if: you want to stop guessing about your own voice — as a K-pop fan who wants to sing your favourites properly rather than approximately, as someone weighing up lessons and wanting an unsentimental professional read first, or as a noraebang regular who never knew which songs are genuinely yours.
• Book DIAMOND instead if: what you want from Seoul is a finished, produced recording to keep and share. GOLD is not a cheaper route there. Visitors often do both: GOLD first, then DIAMOND with a song the report picked out.
